Cedar Wood Development Call-In

I was pleased when Jackie Trad, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government, contacted me late last month to explain that she would be proceeding with the decision to ‘call-in’ the Cedar Woods Development in Upper Kedron.
This decision was not reached lightly but it was important that the people who already live in the area were given a proper voice in the decision-making process. I have never been opposed to development. People need to live somewhere. But wherever we allow development to take place it must be made sustainable by ensuring that sufficient infrastructure is in place and that the impact on existing residents is managed.
Thank-you to everyone who made a submission through the ministerial call-in process or through my office. Now that Minister Trad has made the decision to proceed she will be reviewing all of the submissions that people and organisations made about the development and will be balancing these views with those of the various departmental experts and Brisbane City Council advice.
Ferny Fireballs Knocks Summer Sun For Six
Being able to provide the good news for a grant for the Ferny Districts Cricket Club with $24,000 at their end of 2014/15 season trophy day was welcomed by the club.
The grant will go to build both a shade structure and seating for the local club in the off-season and will make the club a more sun-smart environment for supporters and club members.
The Ferny Fireballs have been chalking up big wins for local cricket lovers for years now. The addition of a shaded seating area to the club will make for a more pleasant and sun-safe experience for everyone involved with the club during the hot summer months.
The other organisation to win funding in the Ferny Grove Electorate in this round of grants is the Enoggeroos Orienteering Club who won a $9,000 grant to purchase a trailer to help them with their activities.
I am pleased to see our local clubs who promote activity and wellness being supported. If you are seeking information or support for community grants please contact my office on 3535 7100 or email me at ferny.grove@parlaiment.qld.gov.au.
