Netball Fixtures Starts

The 2015 Downey Park Netball season started off with a flourish on Saturday, 21^st March. Despite the extreme heat conditions, Arana Netball’s teams played enthusiastically, and several teams are grateful to other club members who helped out by playing in teams short of players available on that day. Unfortunately, the heat culminated in severe rain storms that hit Downey Park around 2pm, forcing the abandonment of the rest of the fixtures for the day, and forcing the 1.20pm round to finish at the third break, the current scores standing as final. Arana 1, Arana 2, and Arana 5 missed their first round games as a result, with the abandoned games now to be scheduled as late afternoon games throughout May.

The following week saw all games played, and Arana’s fourteen competitive teams have had mixed fortunes so far. There is now a break in fixtures, to accommodate Easter, school holidays, and Anzac Day, with the next fixture scheduled for Saturday 2^nd May.

Arana’s teams which have started the season on a winning streak are Arana 3 (Opens Div. 5); Arana 6 (Intermediate 5); Arana 8 (Cadet Div.5); Arana 9 (Cadet Div.7); and Arana 13 (11Yrs Div. 3). As it is so early in the season, there is plenty of time for trends to change, as teams play all the other teams in their grade. Re-grading will usually occur at the end of the first rounds as well, wherever it is obvious from results that a particular team is in too high or too low a grade.

Arana players who have been able to make the commitment to play representative netball have been training and competing in local carnivals – a great way to broaden one’s netball experience, so well done to these players and their families.

Arana Netball Club meetings, open for all to attend, and at which the Committee would especially like to see parents of junior players who are very poorly represented at present, are on the third Monday of the month. The next meetings are Mondays 20^th April and 18^th May. Meetings are held in the Arana Sports meeting room at the Hills District Community Centre, Dawson Parade, Arana Hills, commencing at 7.30pm.
